Overview
Extending beyond the gingival margin and offered in two heights. Providing greater control and consistent force for more predictable movements1.
ClearCorrect’s Performance Trimline, scientifically proven ClearControl™ clinical features, and custom manufacturing technology and processes result in aligners that deliver greater control and consistent force application, achieving complex movements more predictably1.

Study:
Proven uniform force transmission for more accurate tooth movement and enhanced root control.¹
Test Results:
Stress distribution over the upper right central incisor using different trimline designs.
Conclusion:
The Performance Trimline design exhibited more uniform force transfer and stress distribution across the tooth than the scalloped design. More specifically, applying more force to the middle and cervical areas closer to the center of resistance, the Performance Trimline can have enhanced root control and more accurate tooth movement vs the scalloped design that applies more forces to the incisal edge of the tooth. ¹
Test Results:
ClearCorrect aligners are more retentive vs. scalloped trimline².
Conclusion:
Extending beyond the gingival margin, ClearCorrect aligners are more retentive than scalloped aligners, and are engineered to achieve more complex tooth movements, even while reducing the need for engagers.²
Clinical Indications
When treatment planning, diagnosis should consider four key elements that help ensure predictable outcomes:
- Case Complexity
- General Clinical Conditions
- Biomechanics
- Anatomical Aspects
The high and flat trimline is indicated in cases that demand maximum biomechanical control:
-
Rotation Control: Improves retention and effectiveness when treating rotated teeth, especially canines and premolars.
-
Extrusion and Intrusion: Provides more predictable vertical tooth movements.
-
Torque Control: Enhance control of root torque and labiolingual tooth movements.
-
Posterior Movements + Elastics: Ensures stability for molar distalization, uprighting, or other posterior movements.
-
Space Closure: Increases force consistency in closing diastemas or extraction spaces.
-
Refinements & Finishing: Precision during the final detailing phase of treatment.
-
Attachments: Improves aligner stability when attachments are required.
Clinical indications where a low trimline design may be most suitable:
-
Extreme Crowding: Reduce the retentiveness of aligners when the patient has difficulty removing it.
-
Implants & Underneath Bridges: Reduce retention in areas such as implants and crowns.
-
Gum Recession & Abfraction: Improve comfort when patient has gum recession and abfraction.
-
Low Frenum: Improve comfort when patients have a low frenum.
-
Severe Malocclusion: Improve comfort when patients have severe malocclusions.
-
Black Triangles: Less retention for areas with black triangles.
-
Bulbous Teeth: Improve comfort for patients with bulbous teeth.
Treatment Preferences
To set the trimline height in preferences, refer to the following:
-
Under the Account drop-down menu, select either My Account or My Treatment Preferences.
Hight and Flat Trimline will be the default for all cases. Low Trimline will be applied only upon request of Clinician. - On the My Account page, under the left-hand menu select My Treatment Preferences, you will find the following five sections within the Treatment Preferences: Clinical Preferences, Bite Correction Preferences, Aligner Customization, Mixed Dentition, and Additional Treatment Preferences Notes.
- Go to Aligner Customization.
-
Select the Trimline Height.
The default preference and current selection will show in the field in a dark bold text. -
Click on the drop-down menu icon to view the other preference options.
The currently selected preference will show highlighted in grey and in a teal font. Any other available preference options will appear below the default preference. -
Click Save.
your preferences will be applied to all Treatment Setups from that point forward.
To add a new order, perform the following:
-
To access the Order page, do one of the following: click Management,in the header, next to Manage Orders click the the Plus (+) sign, or click Manage Order on the page footer.
You will be taken to the Create an order page and can begin completing the order form. - Complete the following sections of the Prescription form: General information, Records Uploader, and Treatment Approach.
- Under Additional Instructions, select your preferred option: Wear Schedule, Aligner Trimline Height, Level to, and Treatment Duration.
- Click Submit.
To evaluate the Trimline Height for a particular case in ClearPilot, perform the following steps:
- Open ClearPilot by clicking the ClearPilot icon in the Manage Cases section of the Doctor Portal to view the Treatment Setup.
- Select the Trimlines option from the left menu.
- The selected Trimline height for the case will be displayed.
- Alternatively, select the Treatment Overview from the left menu.
- The Trimline height for the case will be displayed.
Once you approve the case in ClearPilot, and upon receipt of the aligners, you will be able to view the Treatment Paperwork, which includes:
- Patient name
- Case ID
- Creation Date
- Trimline Height
- Number of aligner sets in the case
